Shortly after the end of WWII, Juliet Ashton of London receives a letter from a founding member of the Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. And so begins a remarkable correspondence that bridges two island cultures and shares with the world the story of the Guernsey islanders’ indomitable spirit during the German occupation.
Lakes Region Spirit magazine, in conjunction with Lakes Region Reads, is sponsoring a literary contest, inspired by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows’ novel for those whose life, family or friends have been impacted by war, present day or in the past.
Three categories are available: poetry, essay and photography.
Instructions:
• One entry per category per person
• Essays no longer than 500 words
• Photographs must be taken, and copyright owned by, the submitter
• Submitted photos sized at 72 DPI, no larger than 5 by 7 (higher resolution required if selected as winner)
• Poems and essays submitted as embedded text in the body of the email
• All entries to be emailed to editor@LakesRegionSpirit.com
• Entries to be received by October 24, 2010
A gift certificate from a local Lakes Region bookstore to be awarded to the winner in each category. Winning entries to be published in a future issue of Lakes Region Spirit magazine. Writers retain all rights to their work, but winners must be willing to allow their entries to be published.
