Shortly after the end of WWII, Juliet Ashton of London receives a letter from a founding member of the Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. And so begins a remarkable correspondence that bridges two island cultures and shares with the world the story of the Guernsey islandersā indomitable spirit during the German occupation.
Are you missing a sense of community? Well, what if you and your neighbors throughout the Lakes Region all read the same book at the same time? And then talked about it. And then were able to attend any of forty different events inspired by that book, including a chance to meet the author. Lakes Region Reads presents central New Hampshire with just this opportunity.
Annie Barrows, co-author of The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, visited us on October 24th, 2010 at the Inter-Lakes High School!
Organized by a group of librarians in 2010, Lakes Region Reads is a community reading program for the towns and cities of central New Hampshire. The mission of Lakes Region Reads is to encourage citizens to read for pleasure and enlightenment, to involve people from different parts of the region in discussing the same book, and to create shared cultural experiences based on a common calendar of educational programs inspired by the chosen title.
